No Day-One Subscription for GTA 6, Says Take-Two CEO

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has emphasized that the company isn’t interested in launching its games on subscription services like Xbox Game Pass from day one. In a conversation with GamesIndustry.biz, Zelnick explained that while offering a major title on a subscription service at launch might attract players to those services temporarily, it doesn’t align with Take-Two’s strategy for its big releases.

With 15 major games planned for 2026 and 2027, including the highly anticipated GTA 6, along with several indie, mobile, and remastered titles, Zelnick highlighted that the company’s goal is to outperform the industry by producing blockbuster hits. He is confident that Take-Two has all the necessary elements to achieve this.

“There are some positive trends working in our favor,” Zelnick added, “but our primary focus is on creating big hits, and I believe we’re well-equipped to do that.”

In related news, Zelnick recently addressed the mixed early reviews of the upcoming Borderlands movie during a Q1 earnings call. He encouraged fans to give the film a chance, acknowledging the hard work behind its production, while also noting that its reception is unlikely to have a significant financial impact on Take-Two or the Borderlands franchise.
