GTA 6 May Not Be “Wildly Different” from GTA 5 Says Ex-Dev
Former Rockstar Games developer Obbe Vermeij recently shared his insights on Grand Theft Auto 6, expressing optimism while also tempering fan expectations. Vermeij believes that despite potential initial disappointment, GTA 6 will ultimately be “the best game out there.”
Having left Rockstar Games in 2009, Vermeij isn’t involved with GTA 6. During his nearly 14-year tenure, he significantly contributed to the programming of GTA 3, 4, Vice City, and San Andreas. His extensive experience gives weight to his opinions on the upcoming installment.
In an interview with YouTube content creator SanInPlay, Vermeij emphasized that he has “no inside information” about GTA 6. However, he is highly impressed by the reveal trailer, particularly a beach scene where every character has unique animations, which he found stunning. Nonetheless, Vermeij is uncertain how much GTA 6 will differ from its predecessor.
“I don’t think it’s going to be wildly different from GTA 5. I think maybe people might be a little disappointed on the first day,” Vermeij remarked. “But it’s still gonna be the best game out there.”
Given the high expectations surrounding GTA 6, some fans might feel let down if it doesn’t significantly diverge from GTA 5. Despite this, Vermeij remains optimistic, praising the Miami-inspired setting, which he believes “suits GTA very well.”
As of now, many details about GTA 6 remain under wraps. With only one trailer released, the game is slated for a Fall 2025 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
