Ex-Rockstar Games Dev Speaks Out About GTA 6
Former Rockstar Games developer Obbe Vermeij recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6, suggesting it might not differ significantly from its predecessor. Currently in development for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, GTA 6 is expected to launch in 2025.
The GTA series, known for its massive success, is gearing up for its first mainline release in over a decade. The debut trailer, unveiled in December 2023, quickly amassed over 200 million views on YouTube, heightening anticipation. However, detailed information about the game has been scarce since then. Vermeij, who contributed to several GTA titles including GTA: San Andreas and GTA 4, recently discussed the new game.
In an interview with SanInPlay, Vermeij expressed his belief that GTA 6 won’t be “wildly different” from GTA 5, advising fans to manage their expectations. He attributed this to the relatively minor hardware advancements since the last console generation. He highlighted that while the leap from PS1 to PS2 was “enormous,” the jump from PS4 to PS5 isn’t as significant. According to Vermeij, this smaller “technology jump” limits the potential for dramatic improvements and changes in the new game.
Former Rockstar Games Dev Optimistic About GTA 6
Despite not anticipating a significant departure from its predecessor, Vermeij acknowledged that Rockstar Games has “taken it even further” with GTA 6. He believes it will still be “the best game out there.” Discussing what captivated him in the trailer, Vermeij highlighted a scene showcasing a bustling beach with various characters, each engaged in different activities. Additionally, the former GTA developer expressed his enthusiasm for the return to the Miami-inspired Vice City, saying he loves the “Miami vibe.” Vermeij added that he is eagerly anticipating GTA 6 and will definitely play it.
With only a single official reveal so far, the GTA 6 trailer remains a hit among fans eagerly awaiting more updates from Rockstar Games. Considering the game is set for a 2025 release, there’s a good chance the next GTA 6 trailer will drop before the year ends. When it does, it’s likely to generate as much excitement as the first one.
I can’t be the only one on the planet that has no hype for GTA VI? GTA V was so over hyped upon release that I had decent expectations going into it. Played it for maybe 3 hours and I got so bored and I haven’t played it since. Guarantee that GTA VI will be no different.
